setting up a wordpress site on the server and would like to be able to post videos. tried installing a few plugins, but all return the error, http404, or unable to play video/access denied
i've added the /flv MIME. i believe the permissions are correct (not 100% certain though, read access)
any suggestions?

got it working. had to add the flv MIME type specifically to the blog website, not just on the server

Was going to recommend that. :) Though, should be able to just add to the server. Rather, did you try adding it to "default web site"? If so, don't next time. Add it to the "SERVER" specifically.
