My Belkin router crapped out so I bought a new DLINK. The DLINK cannot see the WHS in its list of devices, but I *was* able to remote desktop into the WHS. I tried changing the static IP to DHCP, and rebooted the server. Now, it seems like it's gone for good. I've tried remote desktopping in using all of the static IP's counting up from 1 but no luck.
I CAN'T USE THE SERVER RECOVERY DISC BECAUSE IT SAYS NO SERVER WAS FOUND ON THE NETWORK!
Is there some emergency way to get into my WHS or is my server and everything on it just toast? Why would simply adding a new router cause everything to go to h*ll in a handbasket?!?!?
I don't know ANYTHING about networking--when I bought my PC I just plugged everything into my first router and it worked. I am tired of spending more time maintaining my windows computers than actually USING them for work. I bought the WHS because it was advertised as being an easy to use backup solution.
Am desperate for things to try. I'm leaving for vacation and can't be without my data!
Thanks

D-link does not use the same ip address set that many others do, ie linkys, etc.
Linksys uses 192.168.1.xxx
D-link uses 192.168.0.xxx
If you have changed the ip adress of WHS to DHCP vice static
be shure to boot the server. It is possible that the servers ip address
did not change and is still the static ip address that was originaly set.

I caught that one early on when my printer and other networking devices weren't showing up. I think i made a huge mistake by giving the Domain name in the router the same as the domain name in the old router, thinking that would make everything work without having to reset it. No idea how to undo the damage. It's getting worse and worse.
Am honestly thinking my Windows days are over ... I need something that just works rather than requires endless tinkering...If I physically yank the hard drives out of my WHS will the files at least have the correct names if I want to retrieve them from the hard disks and copy them onto a Mac or will WHS give everything weird names like the ipod does and I won't be able to figure it out?

You may have to re-run discovery.exe for the client to refind the server or
uninstall the connector software and re-install it.

My Windows works great, and only doesn't work if "I" screw something up
