Hello all
Am in the process of setting a new (re-used) machine up for my mother and was playing with the idea of going Linux,
All she really does on it is Facebook / email / surfing, and when my 7 year old stays over with her, he plays web (flash) based games
The machine she has is a bit old now, and I figured I'd get much better performance from a linux install, rather than re-doing a XP / Win 7 install on it
Spec is 2.4 Celeron, 1GB Ram, 256MB graphics card
really just looking for advise on which of the many versions I should go with.

For just a web browsing machine, ubuntu would probably be a good idea.
I can vouch for that. Not used any other flavour of Linux before, but recently installed Ubuntu and it's great as a basic web browsing machine (and there's a free Flash plug-in of course).
Runs just fine on a 6 year old laptop running a 1.4Ghz Celeron with 1Gb RAM...speedier than it ever was under XP, even when it was new...

Do you know if Skype works on it ?
Skype is included in the Jolicloud 'App Store'. I haven't tried it myself but it looks a popular addition (more downloads than Dropbox or Twitter).
