I've got my home server going into hibernation using lightsout. It's been working fine and as expected for a few weeks now until today i got a email from my server saying "The Drive Extender Migrator Service is not running on WHS-SERVER". I only have two hard drives in my server and also I have a external HDD plugged in via usb which is used to backup my server.
Is this error something i should be concerned about? If so whats the best thing to do? I've searched the web and not found any related articles.
Help please

Yes, it means that Drive Extender won't be migrating data over when disks are full. I would start with a "chkdsk /r" on all your disks

I'll run a disk check tonight. Just for reference the service started about 2/3 minutes later after it failing the first time around. Could this be down to my system going into hibernation?
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue with lightsout and setting their server into hibernation.

When you get that message, please verify first whether DE is really not running. Use Remote Desktop to connect to your server, then open Administrative Tools->Services. Navigate to DriveExtenderMigrator and check the state. When state is stopped try to start manually.
Lights-Out stops DE before going into Hibernation and restarts DE after resume. Maybe this took more time and created the error message...

Thanks for your reply Martin, i can never catch my server (normally im at work when it comes out of hibernation) when the services isn't actually running. I've however taken a look at the services and as you can see its set to manually start, is that correct?

I've just added LO 1.5.0.1443 and very pleased with the options
But after 3 weeks usage I suddenly started getiing the same error as stated here
Looks like it's a timimg issue - DriveExtenderMigrator successfully starts 33sec after I see this message
Just annoying to get this error

I'm having the same issue.
I installed Lights Out on my MediaSmart home server a few days ago. The calendar is set to "suspend" at 1:00AM and wake at 7:00AM (Hibernate isn't available as an option). The past two mornings I've received the "Drive Extender Migrator Service is not running" error and have been forced to restart my server. After restarting, everything runs normally.
I've now uninstalled Lights Out, but would like to know if anyone has suggestions to resolve the issue.

Lights-Out automatically restarts DE. To analyse the issue please zip the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LightsOut and send the archive to support at homeserversoftware dot com.

I'm working from a Mac computer and I'm not sure where to find or access the Documents an Settings folder you are referring to.

These folders are on the server. You have to use RDP (Remote Desktop, also available for OSX) to log into your server. Or install an Add-In like Advanced Admin Console to access the server folders.

I don't see any way to access the folders you've described through Remote Desktop. I frequently use Remote Desktop to manage my MediaSmart server through the WHS v1 ADMIN software. But I don't see any way to access folders through this ADMIN panel. I'm able access my shared folders containing data and add-in software from my machine, but the Remote Desktop only gives me access to the ADMIN software.
I also attempted to install the Advanced Admin Console add-in, but I don't think it's possible on my Mac. The installer file is a WSSX file that I haven't found a way to run via MacOS.

If you use RDP, you are logged into your servers desktop. Open explorer (not WHS Console) and navigate to the folder.
The wssx file is for WHS 2011.

Can you please uninstall and upgrade to Service Pack 2 Beta ? (see http://forum.wegotse...2-beta-refresh/ ). This contains some changes in that area.

I finally figured out how to access the system folders via remote desktop. Thank you for your patience. I just emailed you my log folder for LightsOut.

The logs are fine, DE is stopping and starting without issues.Does the DE error clears itself after some minutes?
And please give service pack 2 beta a try. Uninstall and upgrade: http://forum.wegotse...2-beta-refresh/
