i use lights out to hibernate server at night, i want to back up over wifi N a laptop I have set up the laptop with "connect" and I have set up in back up in WHS2011. Questions:

1. Do i leave the laptop in sleep mode and will it wake up or need to wake up for the back up...and if so how does it wake up?

2. When server in hibernate will it wake automatically - do the back up (which now first one is done should only take 10 mins) and then return to hibernate (I do not want the server staying on after the backup for hours)

I have tested the backup and it runs fine when initiated manually but at night I cant seem to achieve the above.

Paul in answer to your first question, a laptop is woken from sleep for the Backup by a scheduled task running on the laptop itself. In order for this to work, you need to have your laptop plugged into the charger.

Dave - you've moved this to the wrong forum... You've put it in Lights Management, not LightsOut...

On my HP WHS1 system, I wake up the server via it's own routine and use LO to wake up my sleeping plugged in laptop. It almost always wakes it up and does a backup daily. Every once in a while the backup fails for a day or two and then fixes itself. For my wired machines it rarely fails.

I schedule all my backups inside the server wake period.

Manny what do you mean by "wake server via its own routine" do you mean you set up the time within "backups" within WHS2011? thats what I have done .....sometimes the server turns on sometimes it doesnt but the backup is not currently taking place and the laptop not turning on...all I am trying to do is put server and laptop to hibernate/sleep at night, and wake both up at the scheduled back up time automatically (7am-8am) do the backups and return both to sleep/hibernate....suggestions?

Is 7am-8am your backup windows? Then you should enable "Always on during...", see http://www.homeserve..._monitoring.htm
This will start your server at 7am and keep it running for 1 hour.

Your laptop will wake-up between 7am and 8am by WHS Connector and run his backup.
