I get an error when I am trying to configure the backup:
"Could not connect to backup location - Backup was not configured"

This error happens when I leave the default path or when I choose a different path.

I can mount the volume I want to use.

What do I need to look for to correct this problem?

OSX 10.6.8

I'm hoping someone from Orbital could give me some troubleshooting ideas as I'm still unable to get the configuration to work. I can mount any of my WHS2011 shares with no problems on my mac yet when I try to complete the Orbital configuration is gives me the error I describe above as it is trying to mount the chosen share.

The share I'm using is a folder I created using the sever dashboard and gave my username read/write permissions. I'm also not able to use any of the other shares on my server.

I just realized I haven't tried rebooting my server so I'll try that now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow this add-in is worse than useless, not only did it not work, but it wasted hours of my valuable time
Not 1 single reply to this thread? Im sure LOTS of others having the same "could not connect / not configured" error as we do

I am sitting here right now with the same problem and it's seemingly impossible to find help.

I also am having the same issue. Downloaded the 1.0.1 version of the add-in yesterday, installed it on my WSSE box (same codebase as WHS and SBSe) without issue. Then went to http://servername/connect from my Mac running 10.6.8 and installed the connector software. After it loaded, I opened the Launchpad, and almost immediately, the Launchpad told me it had downloaded an updated version and would I like to install it. I did, reopened the LaunchPad, and found the Orbital Utilities under the Add-Ins area of the launchpad immediately.

That's when things went downhill.

I clicked on teh Backup Configuration in Launchpad, and was prompted to enter my Mac username and password. No problem. Then the Orbial Backup Configuration Utility opened and I entered my network username and password into the fields, and the Backup Location auto-filled the URL to my folder on the WSSE box. As soon as that information was present, the "Progress" field says "Volume chosen. Click Select to proceed..." Well, there is no "Select" button anywhere. And no matter what I do from this point, when I click "Configure Backup" I get the same error as the others mention - "Could not connect to backup loaction - Backup was not configured."

I've manually mounted the share from my Mac without issue. I've clicked the Browse for Location button and selected the share that's manually mounted on my Mac. Nothing in the Backup Configuration allows me to select the location. I've even tried different usernames from the network, including the local administrator username for the WSSE box as well as my domain administrator account. All result in the same error.

Hopefully we'll hear back from the product developer at some point. I know the product is "free" right now, but I'd gladly pay to have a working version of this, as we're going to be rolling several WSSE boxes at client locations, and several of them have Macs as well as Windows PCs they'd like to back up, and they'll be willing to purchase an add-in that allows them to do that.

hey guys, i have spent the last few days trying and failing to get lion to work with WHS 2011 but I now have Lion backups working to WHS 2011 with reports as successful showing in dashboard.

how i did it...

set up connection install after renaming original mac launchpad.

set up orbital add in on WHS and installed new version of launch pad (not sure if this is needed as i didn't end up using orbital in the end but i don't know if it has something to do with the reports to say it has been successful)

installed iTimemachine to allow time machine to see network share - http://mac.softpedia...meMachine.shtml

ran this script which allows time machine to backup to network drive using smb
http://cloud.github....d_anyafp_r2.zip

set up a network share on the WHS, call it what ever, put it where ever give your user full permissions etc.

mount the share on lion

set up a sparse file using disk utility
named %computername%_%mac adress%
formay mac os extended case sensitive journaled
image sparse bundle disk image
and i saved it to the desktop then copied to the mounted network location

open time machine and set up backups to the network dive you have mounted and all should be sweet.

im writing this for you guys because i got alot of info from this site to help me get this working, the only thing i found else where was the script to allow smb writing from timemachine.

cheers guys, thanks for your help, hope this helps anyone, let me know if you need more detailed steps at any point where i have lacked detail... i wrote this with the assumption that everyone was pretty close just as i was

have fun

Ray.

I'm trying to get orbital to work aswell, as this seemed to be a better solution than the manual setup.

I just can't get it to work?!! Same error as TS - Could not connect...

Everything is working perfect with the share, so I don't understand where it goes wrong?

all the orbital dose is configure the backup... doing the set how i did it, will achieve the same result at the end of the day. no doubt that having the orbital utility working would make it all a lot easier, but im not sure if anyone has got i working...

iv now bee running the time machine backup to WHS 2011 network share for one week now, no problems at all, and can confirm that the backups are 100% usable for a full system restore (once you copy the backup onto a USB drive as i couldn't get the restore working across the network)
