Hi,
I am running the purchased version 1.5.1.15555. Have had this before on a previous installation of WHS 2008 and did run quite well, but now I have a lot of problems. I am running WHS Client Computers and IP Based Client Devices.
* Server is not coming back from Hibernate (although my settings are like described here: http://www.axonet.de...lp/en/00038.htm)
* When WHS is Suspend, it won't wake up based on Remote Access or FTP
Anyways, I have now come down to first checking if LightsOuts does the job (Suspend & Wake up) by just using the Calendar and ignoring (read not using) any settings in:
* Action Tab: Standard action - Do Nothing.
* Monitoring: Monitored Sources - All unchecked
In the Calendar I start the Server at 7:00 (start action checked) and Uptime end 22:00 (end action: Suspend) with Execution: Every day.
Now here is my question, why does the WHS ONLY Suspend, when I select 'Force end action'?
For me this is not making sense because I selected NOT to Monitor any sources and my WHS Client Computers are even turned off. It even doesn't work when I unplug my network cable from WHS (so it would not be able to see any computers or IP based Devices). What does LightsOut have to force to end?
The problem is that when I would monitor devices while using 'Force end action', in case I would continue working after 22:00 for some time, my WHS Suspends at 22:00 and I even can not save a file which I am working on and opened from the WHS.
Please see also attached screendumps and please your advice.
Thanks and kind regards,
Erik

Next I've fixed a client wol problem in test build 1572. I recommend that you upgrade to that version http://forum.wegotse...ble-for-whs-v1/

Wake-up via calendar is completely different from wake-on-lan. Wake-up via calendar uses a timer and does only work in standby (S3 and S4) but not shut down (S5).

There may be two issues here: First the server may not support wol, or a setting in Bios and/or NIC settings is missing. Please verify your server settings http://homeserversof...equirements.htm
Next I've fixed a client wol problem in test build 1572. I recommend that you upgrade to that version http://forum.wegotse...ble-for-whs-v1/

OK, appreciate that. I have checked my WOL settings (were OK) and installed the 1572 version per your advise above.

That's not a Lights-Out issue. That's by design. You have two choices for Wake-On-Lan. Either start the machine with ANY network traffic. Then it would wake-up via RAS or FTP but also every now and then in a very uncontrolled manner. Or use a magic packet only. Then only a wol client will wake your server. RAS and FTP access won't do that. You may have a look at your router and check whether it supports a port forward to your internal LAN broadcast address. Then you can use wake-on-wan. But that's another topic.
OK, but then in the OPTION Tab why can you enter Domain details for Domain for Wake-On-WAN? By the way my router is configured for port forward because I can wake up another windows computer (and it worked on the WHS for my previous installation).

To answer that I have to look at the logs. What happens when you enable the standard action?
With NO Monitored Sources selected and Delay Time 5 minutes, after 8 minutes the Server is still running, so no difference. Here of course I don't have the Force End Action option. Can I send you my LightsOut log files? In Options I Enabled Logging. Where are the files stored and where can I send them to?

Wake-up is actually the only piece of functionality of LightsOut that does currently work for my.
Many thanks for your help!!!

Please log into your server and zip the entire folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LightsOut. Send the archive to support at homeserversoftware dot com and add a reference to that posting.

To answer your first question:That's because you had active clients and configured client monitoring. To understand the concept behind, please read http://www.homeserve..._monitoring.htm
This will also help with that question:That's because your calendar entry was still active (between 07:00 and 22:00).
This setting is transferred to all clients and is used when you operate a notebook outside of your home network. Lights-Out can send a magic packet to that configured domain (using the context menu of the tray app).

Hi Tinus,
Thanks for investigating my log-files. I did so many testing that I cannot recall anymore whether I had active clients and configured client monitoring or not. For sure I had everything switched off, but maybe not at the time that I created the log-files.
So now I made first of all sure that I have all my clients switched off.
As a second try, I even unplugged the WHS physically from the network (so it can never see any clients anymore via the network and you know what? In both cases still the same problem, WHS ONLY Suspends, when I select 'Force end action'.
I went through this http://www.homeserve..._monitoring.htm. However, since I was running LightsOut on my previous WHS-installation almost only successfully there was nothing new to me to read.
Well, I hope you still have some ideas, otherwise I have to give up.
Thanks again,
Erik

Dear Tinus,
I just want to thank you again and let you know that I am currently doing some extensive testing. I run now in a situation where almost every second day I have a different behavior, so I need to find out what's going on before I can send any consistent data to you. I'll get back to you soon.
Thanks once more,
Erik

Just started using lights out for the first time, i was checking how it works before i commit, however all the reviews have been right so far.Excellent software.
OK, I was looking at the calendar to set times to wake up the server and standby it. I have set a day of Tuesday and it entered the correct day ok with the times i set.
Now i tried Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, however it filled in Saturday column too? This puzzled me, so i edited the event and if i removed Friday then Saturday disapeared off the calendar but Friday times remained?
The same thing happened on the weekend, if i entered Saturday and Sunday it filled in Monday too, removing Sunday removed Monday but because Saturday was filled in on Saturday, Sunday was still there.
Is this just a visual problem and my program times are correct, if i remove the day before and it removed the correct day wiill it work ok?
Thought i should point this out, just in case a bug crept in. I have version 1.5.1. 1656 on WHS V1 with all updates installed.
I am going to purchase lights out but i am checking it out first.

HI,
The times i had set were. 6am to 10am, then 5pm to 1am. I guess that if i have it to 1am it's the next day so it would run to the next day and be visually correct. It's just that it put both start and stop in the day so it confused me.
On wakeup after standby. some machine wake it up and some do not. I have lights out client installed on those machines, what i cannot see is why some machines do not wakeup the server or the calendar.
My squeezebox controller wakes it up when it is powered on, so i guess the server is working right.
I am on a learning curve with the software trying to get to grips with its features and how they work. It does from the calendar standby as expected. I am using the calendar until i get the option for squeezebox running properly and my other music players. However i have to purchase the software first to get the file option running.
Thank you for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Wake-up problem: Are you running 1.5.1.1555? Then uninstall and upgrade to service pack 2 beta http://forum.wegotse...2-beta-refresh/
For the features have look here: http://www.homeserve..._monitoring.htm

Thank you for your reply.
I have unistalled lights out on the server and downloaded the latest version. I will now try that again and see what happens with the calendar.
I have set. Sleep function to standby, as before on each day and so far it has always done this ok.
I have set Sunday for 7am to wakeup the server from standby, we will see if it wakes the server up.
will report back what happens.
OK more testing, i have found that if the server is hibernated in the calendar, it will wake on next calendar entry. Will try shutdown tomorrow.

Calendar wake-up does only work from standby or hibernation - not from shutdown.
When you do a shut down, only wake-on-lan from a client will start your server (you can use and configure the Lights-Out client application) to do this for you).

Thank you for your help once again.
I have tested Hibernate and the calendar wakeup works for that. However Standby or sleep does not wakeup the server at the requested time, nor so far does the remote client wakeup the server if in standby. I am going to test hibernate wakeup this morning from the client.
I have a Tranquil PC Sqa-5h with WHSV1 installed. I had to install the graphics drivers to enable standby on the server.
I am getting there but thought it a good idea to post my progress, so others can hopefully get some confidence to try the excellent software.
OK tested with hibernate and one computer with client installed wakes up the server on boot, the other with client does not. The one that works is windows XP, the one that does not work is vista. However, my logitech duet controller wakes up the server on powering up. I have now tried this with shutdown instead. the server will wake on the XP and logitech controller only on power up.
Hope this information is helpful. I am going to see what server network card settings do, i have match and magic packet settings enabled right now in the network adapter settings.
I apologise for putting powerup in the calendar. if you want i can move the next reply as using the calendar is now functional as long as i use only hibernate for now.

The server power button always wakes the server on pressing from Sleep, Hibernate or shutdown. The button function also works correctly for Sleep, Hibernate or Shutdown from running.
I have tested the server. If on Shutdown, it will wake with logitech or XP machine ok. Not other modes,
The sleep function from the client popup menu works to sleep the server remotely. However the wakeup does not work from menu on any machine.
The calendar works fine on wakeup in Hibernate only, Calendar end function always works.

That's strange. Please have a second look at your NIC settings (http://www.homeserve...rements_nic.htm) and power plan (http://www.homeserve..._power_plan.htm).

OK, done some more work as you suggested. I have changed the setting to only magic packet. The other settings in the NIC adapter were right.
Now as i have WHS V1 i can only set the power setting to balanced, always on etc. there is not option to set as you have in the list as that i think is on Windows 7.
Anyways i am going to test the sleep and wakeup again after the change. Thank you for taking the time to help.
