I've just taken receipt of an N36L Microserver and I;m trying desperately to install WHS2011 but getting no where. I doesn't appear to recognise the installed disk and asks me to install drivers. I'm guessing that the disc is behind the RAID controller???? Anyway, visiting the HP support pages, the only AMD64 disk drivers are for WSBS2008 and don't seem to even be recognised. Any suggestions?

Here are the latest AMD drivers.
For use with WHS2011 you need to download the Vista/Win7 package.
If you install specifics manually always use the packages out of the *_svr/W764A folders.
Also get the up to date NIC driver from BROADCOMM as the HP version is old and buggy.

GMCInema - thanks for your guidance. In the end it turned out that the disk was DOA. I removed it in desperation and installed it in my desktop - dead as a dodo! Replaced it today and WHS2011 installed like a breeze. Will take your guidance on the NIC drivers and download them tonight. Thanks again for your pearls of wisdom. R

Hmmm I have this problem now... and my disks are fine
Built my microserver and moved the 250Gb HDD that came with it into the optical drive bay - installed WHS2011 and the drivers above - finally got round to removing the drives from my V1 server put them in the cages and inserted them in the microserver... no amount of re-boots or re-seating in any bay will make the drive seen?
Anyone got any ideas? - I am running a modified BIOS to run the ODD port at full rate...

Thinking maybe I should flash the stock BIOS and re-install WHS 2011 with no drivers
Is WHS supported by HP yet?
I usually end up here...

Right I wiped the server down and re-installed... it now works again... it doesnt seem to like the AMD drivers listed above. and complained of a Graphics problem.. what are the best drivers to use off the HP site?
» Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Foundation Edition
» Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
»
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Small Business
I'm guessing R2 but Pointers greatly appreciated...

hey sorry to hijack but i bought windows home server for my N36l server. My Server doesnt have an ODD drive as i've installed an extra harddrive there for storage. I'm just wondering how do i get the OS onto a usb drive?
Is it just a case of downloading a tool and creating an image of the installation files and putting on a bootable usb?
Sorry if this has been answered before
Thanks

A quick google on "installing windows from USB" will bring up a huge list of guides... I've done the same with the 250Gb HDD that came with the server...
I used a USB DVD drive... really easy, one tip would be if you want to change the "WORKGROUP" name that also has to be done at install - you cant do it after... I had to wipe my server again last night...
Still cant get the HP SATA drivers to install.... anyone???

WHS2011 on the HP N36/40L works perfectly with the latest AMD and Broadcom drivers.
