Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct place; apologies if not. I have a home office network with 4 computers running Windows 7 Home and was thinking about getting a server for centralised file storage, backup, network access and microsoft exchange (running outlook using IMAP is a real pain plus don't want a hosted exchange). Is it possible to get microsoft exchange running on WHS? I don't want SBS (network is very simple) and I have been told it doesn't work with Windows 7 Home and would have to upgrade all the operating systems on the computers. So, is there anyway to get microsoft exchange to run on a WHS? thanks

I beleive it is possible - but to do so you lose other functions of the WHS. If you hunt round the threads there is one that discusses it.
I run exchange on SBS 2011 and keep my WHS for other things!

Exchange Requires a domain controller. WHS2011 blocks you from "promoting" it to a domain controller. Which means, you cannot install Exchange to WHS2011. There are other email applications that you can use on WHS2011, though.

@gbsilp,

As Ian implied (sort of), I'd say that SBS2011 is more appropriate for your home business setting. It has a built-in domain controller and Exchange. It is a LOT more easier to setup than deploying a full-blown Domain controller and Exchange server. SBS2011 supports up to 25 users and 25 devices.

To clarify, that's SBS2011 Essentials. It's WHS2011, minus the multimedia, plus the domain stuff.

It is SBS 2011 Standard I use for business.
