I have a 160 GB VelociRaptor drive onto which I have cloned the WHS 2011 boot partition from my existing drive using Acronis True Image Home 2012. I removed the secondary partition that Acronis created (after all, Acronis was cloning the old WHS drive in its entirety), and expanded the primary partition to use all 160 GB. The thought is to extend the life of the boot drive (existing drive is 3 years old) and perhaps speed things up a bit (at least boot-up). I have assumed I could just add the 160 GB VelociRraptor drive into the box and direct the BIOS to boot from it. Will it work? My second step would be to delete the old boot partition from the old drive, and then expand the old secondary partition to use up the entire drive. (Eventually I'll replace the entire drive.) Will all the shared folders remain? In the end, I will have a separate C: disk and a separate D: disk (instead of one disk with two partitions).

Lots of views here, but no responses yet. I'm having problems with my server rebooting itself, so I've decided to replace the motherboard. Can I simply put in the new boot disk, along with the new motherboard / processor / memory, and then restore the system from a backup?
