I've had a WHS 2011 install up and running for over 6 months now thanks to win7king. All the important stuff (backups) are working great. However, I'm not a big fan of the web access, either via browsers or mobile devices, to docs, photos, and videos.

I've got a PogoPlug Pro laying around unused. I'm wondering if I could attach an external hard drive to my WHS machine, have only certain folders backed up to that external drive (photos/videos), and then hook the PogoPlug up to the external drive as well. Then I'd be able to use the PogoPlug remote interfaces to see those files on other machines, including my iPad.

Does anyone see any problems with this? The reason I haven't just gone out and tried it is because I don't have an external hard drive laying around, and I didn't want to buy one if someone here told me it wouldn't work. Obviously I need an external drive with 2 USB ports so I can have both the WHS machine and the PogoPlug connected at the same time.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

well, lots of views, but no replies. Either this was a silly question, a stupid question, or such a great question that no one has an answer. Perhaps there are some other solutions for WHS 2011 that provide superior web access and/or iPad access? I'm already using StreamToMe, but it doesn't work too well for me.

The problem you'll have is getting your WHS2011 machine and your Pogoplug to see the same USB drive, that can only be connected to one or the other. You could drop the Pogoplug hardware and run the Pogoplug PC software on your WHS2011 machine (under Windows 7) so allowing your USB drives to be accessed by Pogoplug PC. But it will cost you $29.95 to acquire the Pogoplug PC software. Also, be aware that USB disks used by WHS2011 for server backup won't be mounted in a way that allows Pogoplug PC to access them.
