I just installed the latest version. When I try to start the service under settings in the console, the console closes. WHen I try to start the WHS Mobile Server service manually, I get the error

Could not start the WHS Mobile Server service on the Local Computer

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Anyone else getting this? Any solutions?

Thanks.

Did you enable remote access and setup a domain?

Woops, just noticed I have the wrong build number in the console...

Thank you very much for letting me know it didn't work. I still had some debug code that I forgot to remove :o

Uninstall the add-in, and download and install this.

BEFORE you do so, I made a mistake with the installer. Backup Microsoft.HomeServer.SDK.Interop.v1.dll in C:\Program FIles\Windows Home Server. After uninstalling move it back to that folder (going to have to be using Remote Desktop, console won't open without it). I've fixed the mistake with the new download.

Sorry about that.

Thanks. This did fix the one of the service errors.

Now, the service starts but stops after a few minutes.

Any ideas about this problem?

I get this error in the event log for .Net 2.0

EventType clr20r3, P1 whs mobile.server.exe, P2 1.0.5.0, P3 4a46b4cb, P4 system, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4889de7a, P7 1f63, P8 15a, P9 system.net.webexception, P10 NIL.

Did you enable the WHS Remote Access to PCs? Some people may have problems with this. It only works if the user has a router that supports UPnP port forwarding and is enabled. If it can auto-configure with WHS, that is a sign that it supports it. If not, it likes to throw the service off. Just uncheck the option and it should work. A side note, this feature is only for the Windows Mobile client.

Thanks. This change keeps the service from shutting down.

Hopefully, one last issue. On my phone, I get a long error trying to connect but the beginning is "There was no endpoint listening at 'my domain':8169/Mobile..."

Any ideas for this one??

Since your router doesn't support UPnP, you need to port forward port 8169 (TCP) manually using your routers admin page. Also check to make sure the Server's Windows Firewall isn't blocking that port.

Hi Brent,

after some absence, I'm back trying this application. Last time, I didn't got the app to work. This time, with the newer version installed on WHS and HTC, I can't get it to work.

This time the service on WHS won't start. I unchecked almost everything (also Remote Access to PC's). When I start the service from the console, It wil confirm started, but stops almost instantly. In the services management of my WHS, the service won't start eighter. Got any idea's how to fix this problem?

My router is forwarding the right TCP port.

Is remote access enabled and did you setup a remote access domain in the WHS Console? Also, make sure the remote access to PCs feature is unchecked. Now try starting the service.

Not without releasing an update, which I am not doing just yet. Also, are you using the iPhone or Windows Mobile client? I only ask because the iPhone client doesn't support the feature. I will have to look into why it bugs out before I release an update.

I am using the WM client. I have a device with a 3.5" WVGA screen and was looking forward to using this function.I also had an error when browsing my music folder that said unable to allocate memory or something similar and I have 406 files. I have the exact error message written at work which i can get on monday.

Hi Brent, posted on Homeserverland as well in case you miss it here, just wanted to ask about the next version for WM and getting RDP working. Any news? Thanks.

Also I get the same error browsing my pictures as I get when browsing my music, says "The buffer manager failed to allocate a buffer of 14906926 bytes". This folder has over 300 pictures in it.

A feature request, can WHS Mobile generate thumbnails when viewing pictures? Would help when browsing so you can know what pics to download. Also an item count would be useful. Thanks.

Sorry, I've been very busy with school. It is supposed to generate the thumbnails (if the view is toggled, the option is in the Actions menu when in file mode), that is probably what's failing. How much memory does your device have? I will have to look into re-writing the code for that. Make it more memory efficient.

Thanks, I will try the toggle and see if it works. My device has 115MB of ram free.
