I've got all the components to build an Atom-based WHS box.

Wind PC barebone
2G RAM
1TB WD Green

Besides the usual USB ports, the motherboard has a Compact Flash slot. It would be really cool to run WHS from a CF card, or if not possible, a USB thumb drive, and then use the entire hard drive for storage. I'm pretty sure the motherboard will boot from the CF, but will WHS run from the CF, and how do I get it on there?

A pointer in the right direction would be a big help.

Thanks.

Sounds like Unraid - it's operating system is run on a USB drive.
Sadly WHS cannot be. It requires an 80 GB (65 GB lower limit now?) to install the OS and create the initial data partition. This is a hard limit of the installer.

128GB USBs are appearing - at a price - but I'd prefer an SSD personally, or any 2.5" HDD for that.

Thanks for the replies. I installed on 3.5" HDD.

The problem I'm having now is that I can't get the console software to find my server.
