I have 2 questions about Via Home server. Does anyone knows when it will be available?
I have not decided to buy the whole system or only the case. I really like the case. I might want to buy only the case. Is it available somewhere?

I'm not sure when it will be released in the various countries. I wish someone would start selling it in Australia, I could easily migrate my current WHS to that, and use my current one as a desktop (or an encoder box)

Here's the actual site for it.

I wonder if the VGA cable is just a DSUB port which attaches to a motherboard header.

Yea, it is.

I contacted VIA to locate an Australian distributor. There is one. But they want to charge AU$1399 for the case + freight.

Since you can purchase one from the US and ship it here with insured freight with a saving of over AU$550 off that price I told them not to bother. I also cc'd my response to VIA.

I understand the costs involved in importing and providing local support, but that is just ridiculous. And local dealers wonder why people by overseas.

Update - I just got home and had an update from the distributor. They wanted links to US RRP that I had quoted, so I sent links to the RRP and also to 2 much cheaper retail sites. They are going to contact VIA and see if they can source better pricing. I will keep the Aussies here informed of the outcome.

Just a quick update on the price of getting an NSD7800 in Australia.

The supplier got back to me a couple of weeks ago with the usual "our freight is more expensive" story.

The fact the US prices I provided to them was including the original freight from the manufacturer to the US and then air freight from the US to Australia for a one off and was still half the price didn't seem to stack up. They are either getting ripped off by VIA in comparison to the US buyers, or they are trying to make a huge markup.

They offered to look at the price if I was still interested. How long does it take to just calculate a price and let me know? Why ask me if I am interested when I don't know a price? Not what I would call customer service. If a customer asks me for a price, I provide them a price. I don't ask if they are sure they want to know the price because it will take me a while to figure out and I really can't be stuffed.

Anyway... I am now waiting on the HP EX490 to pop up at a supplier here in Aus. Was supposedly to be released today, but haven't seen one appear and it is not on HPs site yet.
