Use Dashboard to Install Microsoft Updates

Update your Windows Home Server 2011 server from your client computers using your dashboard application.

Normally, I have no alerts present in the alert notification field on my dashboard. However, recently I noticed my server was complaining about an alert in the system event log.

The alert notification field provides a quick way to view what is ailing your WHS. Double-click on the alert notification to open the 'Alert Viewer'.

On this occasion, I was presented with a warning that important updates should be installed on my home server. Click on the alert on the left side of the window for more information about the alert. For this alert, I was presented an option on the bottom right side of the window to open windows update.

Click on the 'Open Windows Update' link. This presented me with the Windows Update application for my WHS.

Choose the updates you want to install and click OK.

Click Install updates.

You can restart your server once the updates finish installing. Click 'Restart now'.

After the server has rebooted, restart the dashboard application and check your alert notification area.

As I become more familiar with my WHS 2011 server, I continue to discover new ways to work with it.
