I was thinking of upgrading to some of the "green" drives but am concerned that the lower spin rate (5900 RPM vs. 7200 RPM for a normal drive) would imact streaming performance.

Has anyone successfully used these drives for video streaming?

Thanks

Yup. Just fine for the most part. Most of the 5900RPM drives have a 32MB cache on the disk, so you should be more than fine.

Thanks!
Now it gets worse...I just saw that some of the upcoming WD Drives are green and have 64MB of cache. Is it worth waiting to the 64MB to come out?
My main concern is that if I upgrade my drives, that I don't have to do it again for a while.

I am looking to stream content to either a PS3 or XBOX (haven't decided which one to get yet).
I have a 1G network.

Thanks again.

I use 15 of the Samsung F2 1.5TB drives on my server. They work great and until WD dropped the price on their 1.5TB drive, were the least expensive. If you can get the 64mb cache for the same money, go for it, otherwise you don't need more to get excellant results.
