While playing around with a belkin network usb, i thought to my self is there a software that i could install on whs that would work.
after doing some googling i found a few.
I then decide to give FabulaTech - USB over Network - http://www.fabulatec...er-network.html
I was very surprised at how well it worked. I even forward the port number from my server and i can used xxxx.homeserver.com connect with my MFPrinter.
Just posting as other may find it useful or not

I must say: that really looks cool. I think I will give it a try, to see if I get this working as well. I'm interested to see whether this works without having to install drivers for the device on the WHS, which is the main issue.
The price is a shame! 149 USD is astronomically high.

No you don't install the drivers on whs, once you connect the usb device upto the whs it shows up in the device manger list the when you make the server take over the device it removes it from the device manger list and take full control over it.
On the client side once you connect to the sever you will see a list off device you setup on the server. You then have to option to connect manually or set it to connect automatic when it free or at the same time as other clients.
yes i know it a high price to pay. I had a dir-655 which had a the same sort off software built-in but i found it not to be that reliable when my printer when went into energy save mode ~(sleep).

The Belkin All-in-One USB Printer Server does something similar - http://www.belkin.co...oduct_Id=354892 - and it seems may be cheaper that the software. UK price is sub-£50.
I set one up for a friend it looks to the PC's like the printer / scanner is on the local USB. When you want to use it, you get exclusive access until a settable timeout.

Yes i have used one before, but never really got on well with it. My other problem is that i'm trying to cut my own carbon foot print down and by adding more things plugged in is not the way to go.
Yes i know the software is highly priced and i'm looking into find a cheap alternative. this is the reason i posted my find for this software so other could look and maybe come up with something that cheaper that i have missed myself.
