Dear members,
With the new Lights Out it is possible to monitor a device via IP. Also you can keep the WHS running while having that device playing content.
But my question is as follows: Is it possible to turn on the PS3 and then let the WHS know that is has to power on?
Anyone?
Kind regards,
Martin.

???? hi dave, guess its just way too early here for me to process anything..
the link i posted does say LO is will stay on if PS3 is on, what it also says is that i am wishing PS3 will wake the server up, which i think is not supported not unless it is able to send MP to the server.
although i really did not look into it and again i may have not understood it right but can't PS3 send a MP to the server via LINUX?

what about sending an mp to the server through a webapp or an iphone app? I'd like to be able to have the server in hibernation and then when my wife decides to put a movie on for the girls, she can just open a webpage or app from her iphone. and then once the ps3 turns off, LO puts the server to hibernate again.

I'll check if that's possible with my HTC HD

powering on the SERVER via WAKE ON WAN is possible with LO... but i dont think itll be able to power up your PS3 though.
so, for her to watch movies, PS3 needs to be powered up and once watching movies is done, power off the PS3 and WHS server should hibernate afterwards..

Sorry , I must have phrased it wrong.
She would be turning on the PS3 herself and then signal the server to start up via an app or webapp... then the server would hibernate when the ps3 shuts down.

i dont have an iphone but think as long as you can point your browser here: http://www.wakeonlan.me/ and provided that you have set-up your ROUTER this should work.

Hi,
I've similar problems with my Windows Home Server (WHS). This WHS is running LightsOut, a very efficient Add-in: http://www.home-serv...lights-out-1-0/
My network is fully Win7 and Win Server 2003 (on WHS), but I'm using a Sony PS3 to stream all kinds of media from the WHS to LCD-TV, AV Receiver etc. - works like a charm.
Now, I like to wake the WHS from the PS3 (WOL, within the LAN) and was thinking this could work via the internal Internet browser.
Could a simple http://WHS-IP or http://Router-IP do the job? Or does it need another protocol?
If there is need of a Magic Paket, the online tools as well a client tools do not seem to work, since the router does not allow "broadcasting" (x.y.z.255).
Has someone a working "wake-up" in place and could share the experience?
Most importantly, I do not intend to use a separate machine (PC/notebook) to wake-up the WHS, it should be driven by the PS3.
Thanks & Best regards

I don't believe it would be possible from the PS3, unless you want to login into your router or go to a website that does it.
The problem with that is that it would take a while to just do it. Might be easier just to go turn it on manually.
The best solution I have found is on the iphone. I found a free app called netawake that does the trick. All you have to do is know the MAC address and be connected to the LAN.
For some reason, LightOut does not recognize one of my PS3s so I have set up in setting to Hibernate after 150 minutes, which is 2.5 hours. Thats usually enough time to watch a movie.
I'd like it to be a little longer then 2.5 hours but that is as high as it will go.

Thanks.
My NAS is somewhere in the building, long way to go there.
Yes, I've heard of iPhone solutions, even if this only works within LAN.
