Hello all

my 2 year old Tranquil WHS has started to develop hardware faults and needs a complete rebuild. However after much fustration I have decided it time for a new box.

I looked around and have decided that the EX495 would be ideal. It can back up my new Mac Book Pro and with the plud in Bluray I think it can take over the ripping duties.

Two inital questions

How much noise does the HP box make?
Can I plug in Wireless N USB to connect it to my network?

Second set of questions

The EX 495 isn't avliable in europe but the X510 is. What I am missing out on by going for the X510? I can't seem to find any differeneces (HD size appart)

If I import an EX495 would I get hardware support from HP

Thanks

At this time, the only difference is the nameplate on the boxes. I fully believe that the software offerings will differentiate over time with the X510 offering a very business oriented feature set while the Ex495 will continue down the more consumer oriented feature set.

If HP does offer a Vail upgrade path for these 2 machines, I suspect that may be where the 2 machines will see those differences. That is just a guess, however.

Does the X510 have streaming and ripping like the EX495?

Do we have a time frame for Vali?

The current Ex495 and X510 software bundles are identical. I do not think either one directly supports ripping of CD's, DVD,s and BD's, as that is illegal in the US. You will have to obtain that ability elsewhere.

Vail? When it is done. Later this year would be my guess. The big question is how will the OEM's support upgrades to existing machines. And when upgrades might occur...

Ok my X510 turned up today. So far quite impressed. Spent the morning hacking it so it would connect wirelessly now its just going to take some days to get all my data on board.

Need to figure out what the best way to store data is and how I am going to manage video etc but its a nice bit of kit

If it's like the EX490 you should have no issues. You can get the My Movies Add In to automatically rip discs withteh server.
That along with other software and a USB drive.
I have forty Terabytes in my Storage pool for holding my titles.
