Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Port Multiplier JBOD/RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5 Enclosure (Black)
i have the above enclosure with a 1.5 TB drive that i am using to back up my WHS data,
when i click on the drive to temporarily remove it and put in the fire safe it only gives ne the option to remove it and quit using it for backup.
so my question if i do that will i be able to use to restore from?
i plan to use two drives and use them every other month but would like to store them in my fire safe but i am not sure how to remove them properly after the backup is done help please.

Digibandit, I had a similar setup: I used an external 2 TB I-O Data USB HD to backup all my server data. When I had to reinstall my server due to an issue with my system drive (and some change in hardware ), I simply unplugged the USB connection of my backup drive from my WHS (the computer was turned off - I guess I could have also ejected the USB drive from the desktop instead), i.e., I did NOT remove if from the storage pool.
After setting up the new system (i.e., reinstalling the WHS), I plugged the USB drive in again and the WHS immediately recognized it as a backup device, i.e., I didn't have to add it to the storage pool (the WHS did so automatically). I then used the WHS console to restore the latest backup from the USB drive to the WHS.
So I think you should be able to take this approach - unplug it, put it in the safe, plug in the other backup drive. Why don't you give it a try?
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

well i was hoping i would not have to shut the server down every month since the external enclosure is hot swappable. i was also pretty sure that the WHS software was smart enough to go on and boot up if the drive was removed while it was off. so i am hoping that it is something simple that i need to do to my acer h340 but if i have to shut it down i will do that. i also have to figure out how to get WHS to do a complete backup each time instead of incremental but i figure i missed a button.
