I have an EX490

I dont know why but some movies play great, some play great then lag to hell. Same effect for some of my tv shows. I use .mkv and .mp4 files. Some mp4 plays good some lags same for the mkv. So it cant be the file format.

I have my ps3 connected wired to my router so there is no wireless. Also all my dirves are defrag with perfectdisk. I have plenty of space. I use ps3medias server. Can someone help please because this is the purpose i bought this machine and it sucks.

Hi

There is no need to double post, posting the question once is enough.

I'd think before anyone *could* help, you'd need to offer more detail. What HW is in use, what programs, etc etc.

Your first post was rather open ended and leaves us with many many q's. It'd be a crap-shoot for I'd imagine anyone on where to begin.

Ok I have

1) 80Gb ps3 connected by wire to my router
2) EX490 connected by wire to router
3) I have a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824

http://www.netgear.c...ers/WPN824.aspx

I shutdown twonky to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. I have the following file formats on the EX490. (MKV, MP4, AVI). The avi plays great. Some MKVS like 2010 and the hangover play great others like ninja assassin and Sherlock Holmes gets choppy after a while. The mp4s are just choppy after a few seconds. I don't understand how for example 2012 and the hangover which are 6GB and up MKV file can play great and a 1GB mp4 lags like crazy.

Whatever input you have please help me out. If I cant get this to work there is no reason for me to have this as this is the MAIN purpose i bought it for.

I also read that maybe changing the settings but why am I going to play a crappy quality.

Or some say play the movie and pause for a few in the very beginning for the info can send to the ps3 quicker. I did that yesterday and it worked for some not all.

Hey cirrus, please confirm these same videos play fine on another device. Try streaming the videos using twonkey(where possible) and see what results you get. Also what sort of CPU/Memory usage are you seeing? I don't have any experience with the PS3 Media Server but I would think it is a question more suited to the media sharing and streaming subforum; the devices forums tend not to get as much attention, but since you have already made this and another...

Anyhow, please post back I'll do my best but you really need a PS3MediaServer user to help out

Hey John how's it going? I've been all day on the ps3media fourms and testing .

Basically my network is fine. CPU at times spike to 100%. Mencoder and javaw are killing me. The movies that lag I have to simply do this step to play my movies and tvshows. I go to the MKV folder and play the TsMuxer file inside and it will play great. I have to do the same for the tv shows. Instead of playing the movie file now I need to do 6 steps to watch something.

Everything is good so far except for one thing. My entire heroes season4 plays but no audio meaning I can't hear the people talk but I hear the music of the show lol. The files play great on my pc with full audio.

Also twonky doesn't work because it does not support MKV files. For the tv shows they lag and can't get them to play because I can't do the process that I can with ps3media server. So twonky is out.

Also why can't I see my videos on the iPhone mediasmart app? And also the online page where you can see all my pic and music. I see the movie folders on both the iPhone app and online. But the folders are empty. All have MKV, AVI and MP4 files.

This sounds a lot like codec issues, especially the file where you have audio on 1, and not the other. I sometimes get that with MKV files, but I have now taken to converting everthing to MS friendly formats (MPG), which work on PC, and all my extender devices.

Don't you lose quality with that format? If not what program are you using?

Hey I've been a little busy recently but not doing too bad I guess. CPU at times spike to 100%, how often is this? Audio issues are defintly codec/container/setup related. There could be 5.1 tracks which your media players are not down/upmixing properly or multiple audio streams. Double check that your speaker configuration on the player/device mathces that of your setup.

Im not 100% sure but I don't think the videos feature for the iPhone works too well unless you connect via Wi-Fi ( don't quote me on this). Make sure you re-encode your videos using the HPVideo Converter mobile profile. Again sorry I can't help more but I don't have any experience with the iPhone.

BTW I also re-encode all my videos to WMV (VC-1). Saves the compatibility problems has good quality and size and avoids all codec related problems (well except no 5.1 on PS3 -_-). I would suggest finding a good container to suit your needs and re-encoding a few problem files to see if the problem persists.

There are lots of alternatives, but Urmaster said, you first need to find a format that suits you, once you have that, then get an application.

depending on your PC that you are using to re-encode, it can be a slow process to convert video files.

Ok I used the hp video converter and converted a mp4 file. I converted a mobile and full option of a movie. It still does not play on my server webpage on media streamer. It just says loading and stays there nothing more. On the iPhone using the HP MediaSmart iStream app I press play and it says loading then says it cannot play this file. So what gives?

How do I get this thing to atleast play my movie on my server webpage? If you can also help with the iPhone that would be great.

Thanks for your help. I know I can be annoying but I'm just frutrated.

Hey sorry for the gap again, I'm at a loss as to whats stopping your videos from playing. Just so we're clear does the streaming application* not load correctly or are you able load the application but not the files?

*The flash page on the remote site (media streamer)

The remote site media streamer. I see my pics. I see all my videos but when I hit play it just stays at loading. So I turned on the hp converter software and converted a movie on both options which is full and mobile.

Same out come stays at loading and on the iPhone the movies don't even appear

All right that loading happens when the video is buffering, does this happen from inside your network as well as outside?
