My problem: I'm unable to get drivers loaded for my network card under Windows Home Server 2011. When the server reboots in the middle of the install process and after it loads up it then says that there is a problem "A network device driver was not found". I checked the BIOS and then LAN chip is enabled so that wasn't the problem. The ethernet cable is plugged in but only flashes orange - while it shows green and flashes orange on my laptop when plugged in.
I tried using the Asus drivers from the included DVD but WHS said it couldn't find any drivers. So I went to the Intel site and downloaded the latest drivers (ProWinx64.exe v16.3 - ProWinx64 because I'm using 64-bit and that one includes Windows Server 2008 R2 which supposedly WHS is based on). After extracting on a different computer and digging thru them it appears I want to use:
e1q62x64.inf from the ..\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62 directory from the extracted Intel driver files.
I figured this because I read on page 39 of the Gene-Z owners thread on overclocker.net that the Asus Gene-Z uses the 82583V chipset. And the e1q62x64.inf file includes that one as shown below.
The problem is: ALL of the other names show up when I'm trying to manually choose the driver, EXCEPT 82583V (even though it shows up in the .inf file). (I'm using the first part of the procedure to update drivers as outlined here: http://www.missingre...es-motherboards ) - but my driver name isn't showing up on the list in WHS when I'm trying to choose one.
I thought maybe it had already loaded it (and that's why the name isn't showing up) but when I go to the regular windows search feature to load drivers (without switching to the USB card I have downloaded the drivers to) I'm still not seeing the 82583V listed.
Hopefully I'm missing something simple but any help is much appreciated.
Main questions:
Why is the driver not showing up to let me specify which one to choose (but all the others are)?
Is there a way to force the driver install?
Does the flashing orange mean something (I read it means 100mbs vs. 1000mbs which seems odd since it's a gigabit lan)?
Any other suggestions are much appreciated!
Below is part of e1q62x64.inf file where it shows all the names. You can see the 82583V listed but after checking them one-by-one against the list WHS was giving me to choose from when I try to manually specify the driver - I found that ALL were showing up, except it.

Dunqan,
Little late response but i also spent a lot of time figure out how to install Intel network card 82583V driver under Windows 2008 and newer
Follow intel forum it seems driver wasn't qualified for mentioned WIndows Server.
The good news, on Youtube there is quick tutorial how to tweak spoken e1q62x64.inf to let operating system detect correctly driver and install it

I hope it can help more people in future.

Hi varsovie,
Is there any reason you removed the video?
Does anyone else have a solution for this problem?
Thx
Helen

I solved some of my problems.
I downloaded the drivers from Intel here:
http://downloadcente...oadType=Drivers
The file is named PROWinx64.exe and is a .rar file.
Once the download was complete, I expanded it, and ran DxSetup.exe from the folder APPS/PROSETDX/Winx64.
That successfully installed the Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection.
However, I still do not have the "PCI Simple Communications Controller" and the "SM Bus Controller". Anyone know how I can get them?
Thx
Helen

For those of you that may be interested, I finally solved all the problems. For each of the two devices abbove that had no driver, from the Device Manager I right-clicked, chose Properties -- Details -- and Hardware Ids from the comboBox. The results were PCI\VEN-8086DEV_1C3a and PCI\VEN_8086DEV_1C22. I then did searches on these Ids and they are both Intel devices, so I repeated the search on the Intel site. This led me to some downloads. Although the OS combo did not contain Windows 2008 R2, I downloaded the latest versions anyway, and lo! -- the readme files DID include Windows 2008 ServerR2 (all version). So I finally managed to install all my drivers.
Hope this helps someone else.
Cheers,
Helen
