Hi all,
I'm trying to play a 1080P video from Media Library from within Remote Web Access. To my surprise the video is in low quality. It runs smoothly but the video quality is unacceptable.
This video is from hi-def camcorder with file extension .m2ts. Its dimension is 1920x1080. The server has i3-2100 and 4G RAM. The same video plays perfectly on server box.
Is this an expected behavior in WHS 2011? or did I miss something to set up the box properly?
Thanks.

Check your Server's Video Streaming Quality setting.
You can do this by opening the Dashboard and double clicking on server setting on the upper right side of the dashboard.
Then Select 'Media' and Change the 'Video Streaming Quality' to the desired level.
good luck....

Thanks for pointing this out. I've tried this. The quality does improve, but still doesn't look like 1080p. It looks like 720P at best.

WHS 2011 transcodes the video when playing via the remote web access page. Unfortunately, the quality of the re-encode is not so good (especially if it was wide screen format before the re-encode).

.m2ts is an out-of-the video camera format. As such, it is a BIG file if it's more than a few minutes long. I have my WHS2011 video playback settings to "good" and only see a little loss of quality when viewng a "raw" .m2ts video locally via Remote Web Access. I have a 1GB home network and a 50mps fiber Internet connection. Though I know it would be nice to be able to use out-of-the-camera video, most of the time that doesn't work for me. I've found that converting .m2ts to .m4v produces spectacular streaming results and a greatly reduced file size. My out-of-state family reports that .m4v works very well via cable Internet and DSL connections so that's my "viewing-ready" format of choice. Good luck.
P.S. My Sony HandyCam produces exactly the same format/size you mentioned.

What's your ISP rated upload speed to the Internet? Do a speedtest.net test and find out how fast you can upload data.
That's a big factor in how much of the quality of the stream itself is lost while streaming.
