I am taking the leap and will be installing 2012 Essentials Beta for a test drive.
1. What issues (if any) can I expect with viewing all my photos, videos and music through Xbox 360 and Media Center?
2. What can I expect with managing/mirroring multiple SATA drives? Is it straight forward?
3. Today, all the PC's in the house point to Home Server 2008 for My Documents, Favorites, etc. Will this be the same experience in Essentials 2012?

The media streaming from WHS2011 is in 2012 Essentials, so you'll be able to stream that way.

As for storage spaces... it's rather simple to use (from the control panel), but not really fully featured as one would like. You can't change mirroring of the "pool" once it's been set. ANd it's per "space", not per folder. :(

As for folder redirection, yup, just the same.

Thanks!!... One more...as I add disks (in pairs if I am mirroring), this is easily done on the fly with 2012 Essentials?

Absolutely! If you used the Control Panel, you just use the "add disk" option. Sadly, it's the removing the disk part that's the hard part. if you used the control panel, you can't remove the disk unless it's physically removed or disabled in device manager.

If you created the pool in the server manager (which is more difficult, mostly because it's a lot more involved), you can remove a disk any time.

And Storage Spaces handles what data is used where, so you can remove one disk at a time. And you can add more to grow the "pool", one at a time.
