Linksys WRT54GL will auto-configure properly. However, when you access it remotely it will lose its settings (I was never able to figure our whether it was the router or WHS) so I ended up configuring it manually anyway. No problems now.

My Zyxel P-2602R-D1A did the trick, however just to be on the safe side I also set it manually, it works great on both ways.
When I switch on the remote access through the console WHS detect it's set manually, awasome ;)

Just got a new ISP and I got the Zyxel P-2602R with it. WHS doesn't seem to auto-configure it correctly. Everything is OK till the last "Verifying that your router is accepting Remote Access Connections".

NOTE: seems that Windows Firewall is acting up. Works perfectly now! For some reason the rule HTTPS 443 didn't show up in the list of the firewall exceptions...

Zyxel and me isn't a good match, I always seem to have different needs to what Zyxel gives (Can't open more then 11 ports maually in this case). It's a great modem/router for people who just want connect to the internet though. I just want that littlebit extra :)

A friend of mine is selling his Speedtouch 780WL soon, and I'm gonna replace that with the Zyxel. (Noticed that one isn't yet in the list, when I got it I'll let everyone know if it works or not).

Are you using the default firmware? If you're into it I can sugest using Tomato, superfast and very stable.

THOMSON ST780

I had to configure the port forwarding by myself although the router is Unp. But it works ok now

Finally got my Speedtouch ST780 up and running!

Port forwarding is not necessary needed. The key is that the Speedtouch has NAT Loopback disabled by default. This is very easy to fix and there's no need to manually forward the ports.

1. Start a telnet session and log into the modem
2. type the following commands after the =>

---

ip config natloopback=enabled (press enter)

saveall (press enter)

---

That's it!

If you've had success setting up your router using WHS' auto-configuration wizard, please post the manufacturer and model number here.

Belkin Wireless G router Model F5D7230-4, was very easy process. Auto-configuration walked me through every setting, up and running on first try.

Hi new to the forums but always follow this and other WHS related blogs and have been an avid WHS fan since the beta program. Just thought I'd join up here to add my experiences with routers especially as the new one that arrived today doesn't appear to have been mentioned.

Today I took delivery of the new Linksys WAG160N which is an ADSL2+ and Wireless-N (draft 2) compliant ADSL router. I've only had it a few hours but so far am really impressed with it's ease of setup and feature set. Couple of gripes, which I can live with but hopefully they will be fixed in future firmware updates, is no ADSL signal information (just upstream and downstream speeds) and that loopback HTTP requests don't seem to work -- e.g. if I enter a HTTP address that is resolved to my ADSL IP address but in fact is on my local network the connection times out -- although this does seem to work if I add a port number for HTTP services that I have running on non-standard ports.

As for WHS the uPnP feature configured the WAG160N except that due to the loopback issue WHS is unable to confirm that it's working, I've used VPN into my work computer and checked that WHS is accessible so I'm quite certain that the configuration has been successful. Problem is that I now have a yellow warning on the WHS connected computers which I know I can set to ignore but I'd rather not.

This new router is replacing a Belkin N1 F5D8231uk4 which works perfectly with WHS (and a PS3 for that matter) but I'm fed up with this locking up and requiring reboots (I know it's locked up because no external access, you can't access the router admin pages and if you unplug the lan cables which normally makes the front lan indicator light go out it stays on! I've had two of them now and both did the same so it's going back.

Prior to that I had a Netgear DG834N which I manually configured with WHS (never did try uPnP but I can confirm it did NOT work with the PS3) and again I had quality issues with this router so it was replaced with the Belkin (I haven't had much luck with routers recently and I know you're all thinking it must be me!). I did have a Netgear DG834G V1 router before all this which always worked flawlessly except uPnP never worked which was why I started manually configuring the WHS ports on my routers -- I have lived to regret replacing that router! I have to say that Netgear make the best router administration interfaces of any home routers that I've used.

Look forward to hearing other experiences with the WAG160N now that it's available.

Well I used the Microsoft Connectivity Evaluation Tool located here:

http://www.microsoft...gd/default.mspx

The detailed output confirmed that uPnP is fully supported and that the ports had been opened up correctly by WHS. It's just the loopback issue that is preventing WHS from confirming that the ports are open and working. I have worked around this by manually configuring the ports on the WAG160N and now loopback addresses work as expected, seems the router isn't checking it's uPnP port mapping table only the manually configured ports, and my WHS icon is green again. Would rather make the uPnP features of the router a little redundant if it wasn't for the fact that it works great with the PS3.

Well I had another live chat session with Linksys tonight and they are going to escalate this issue. Hopefully it will be fixed in a future firmware release but for now I'm happy to live with having the router manually configured for the required Windows Home Server ports. Just thought I'd keep you all updated.

I have the excellent Netgear DG834G (4th generation) which is great but doesn't seem to like being configured by WHS via uPNP. The settings stick for a few hours then the WHS connector software on my clients come up with 'Network at risk - port forwarding failed'. I have the latest firmware from the product's support page. This is something I would love to get working, so I guess I can do it manually - any tips would be appreciated. Should I reserve an IP for my WHS (which I can do through the router interface)? If possible I would prefer to give it a static IP rather than leave it to DHCP. Again, is this possible?

Many thanks.

P.S. I think the Netgear 'GT834GT' on the main list should, in fact, be the DG834GT.

Linksys WRT600N I'm not so sure the 600n should be on this list I've two of them and had nothing but problems when it comes to connecting via internet and port setup. In fact I’m switching over to the WRT350 because of the frustration I've had using the 600n with WHS. If I didn’t have WHS I would keep the 600n. Rick
