1. Run the Server recovery CD on a PC and follow the instructions with regards to removing software (IGNORE THE REST FOR NOW)
2. Turn off the Acer, hold power button for 4 seconds
3. Using a paper-clip, or similar, push in the recovery button on the back of the unit and KEEP it pressed in WHILST you turn on the unit
4. If you have done this correctly the i will flash RED on the front of the unit
5. WAIT patiently until you see the network icon, on the front of the unit, flash BLUE
6. Now you can press the NEXT button on the Server Recovery Software and it WILL find the server very quickly
7. Follow the instructions now from the Server Recovery Software. It DOES take a long time to recover (best part of 1 hour on a Gigabit network). Shame they didn’t put the 3Gb image on the 1Tb drive to save time!!!

I've just spend the best part of 8 hours pulling my hair out trying to restore the Easystore. It appears the information in the manual is wrong. Hope this helps out others who mess about and break there system just like I did:(

I'm about to crack! I've trying to restore the server since a few hours. I tried the manual method, the method on the top of the page, tried few network configuration (no router, different router). The server seem to be able to get an IP from the DHCP server, but it still doesn't work.
I hold the reset button, then start the server, i release the reset button, the 'i' led flash for a fraction of a second and then the server connect to the network.
It still doesn't work.
Please help it's urgent.

Remove WHS Connector on you computer
Shutdown the server
Hold the reset button
Start the server
Keep holding the reset button until the 'i' light on the front is blinking (on and off continually). If it just flash for a sec, it's still too early to release the button.
Then wait a least 2 or 3 minutes before the "Network" light appear. Yeah it's long.
After you can press next to search for the server.

You need to hold the reset button longer until it flashes red.

I had to do a RMA on my Acer but i'll go into that later. The old unit had a Hitachi System drive, the new one came with a Western Digital Green drive, (very happy about that). I put my storage drives into the new unit and did a restore on the initial boot up of the new Acer. The restore worked fine, I have all my data but in the WHS console Server Storage Tab it is still showing the Hitachi drive as the system drive. Why wouldn't it pick up that it has a new drive and display the Western Digital
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated
Thanks.

I had the same problem. Had to learn how to reset this machine using the instructions above. Problem for me though: the client could NEVER 'find' the server when the red 'i' was flashing, and the network light was illuminated on the front panel.
* everything uninstalled and rebooted on my client machine.
* red 'i' blinking
* network light on
* couldn't find the server.
Had to open up a virtual machine, and bango, that did the trick!
Was using Windows 7 RC1.

My EasyStore came w/a password configured out of the box! So... tried to restore (4 times now) following the directions here and posted elsewhere as well, but no joy.
When it gets to the part where it is restoring the server, it goes pretty fast & shows the completed progress bar & "Finish" - I click Next, it reboots the server and it is as if nothing has changed - it still has the server name "ASPIREHOME" & some unknown password.

The default name is ASPIREHOME but once it reboots it should start the install and ask you to set up a password and hint. If you don't have any data on it yet, which you obviously don't do a Reload (I think thats what it's called), istead of a restore, this will put it back to factory specs but you will loose any data you have loaded.
Note, if it does have a password set then it sounds like it was previously loaded. Was this an open box unit or new?

It appeared to be a new unit - it had Acer branded clear tape over the box opening flap. BUT after more than 8-10 (I lost count) attempts to restore the unit (from Windows 7 RTM, from XP, from Vista(!) & even from XP IN a virtual machine) - AND a failed attempt to get support from ACER (email support sent me to a 1-800 # with a voice prompt system that won't let you get to a PERSON) ... I boxed it up & RMA'd it - I hope the return unit isn't in the same condition.
I work for Microsoft as an OS Deployment consultant, so I'm in no way a newbie to OEM requirements for shipment. This unit or any others that are shipped like this are really failing QA!

I ended up doing a RMA on mine since Acer Support is useless or should I say doesn't exist. Enter SIDN number? where the hell is the SIDN number? (Finally found it on the box when I was shipping it back, but can't find it on the unit anywhere).. My problem was one of the drive bay doors fell off the first time I opened it. I got the new unit before sending the old one back and I checked all the trays and found that almost all of them had fractures in the plastic hindges. Out of the 8 trays I found 3 that didn't and kept a 4th with the least crack for the system drive. They obviously have a bad design here that they are fracturing the hindges when inserting the pin through it. You have to look close but there are hair line cracks in them. Be careful opening and closing the drive trays.
I kept my original unit with the good trays and sent the newer one back since I kept getting network errors on it when trying to restore and load it. I have never got this error on the original one. Plus the Ambient temp didn't read right on the newer one when using Speedfan, it showed a temp of 148c. That is C not F..... My original one reads correctly. I guess you need to buy 2 and keep the best of the 2 of them. Too bad their QC and Support is so bad.

Sorry I have to do that to keep the spam email bots away.

My H340 started acting weird a couple weeks ago (I figure some MS patch might have done battle with Java PS3 Media Server or something) so I attempted a few things and finally decided to do a server restore. Took some finagling to get it to work but (in part thanks to the above) I was able to make some progress.
However, the new symptom now is that I get to the reboot and install phase; the device appears to reboot normally but when it comes back, the 'i' is blinking blue, the HDD light is apparently on more or less solid (I've seen it blink off a couple of times) and none of the individual HDD LEDs is lit. However, the network LED is completely off and I don't see a link on the cable or anything. So far it's sat about half an hour like this (and I'm content to just keep letting it sit for the time being).
Should I expect it to take forever at this stage if I have a ton of storage installed in the box? Is it going to blow away my data (I hope not; I chose to recover not restore to factory settings).

The operation cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact Product Support.
Not sure what's going on here but overall I'm not thrilled with this piece of hardware; worked well for a while and now seems awfully lame.

Actually, as a follow up (and note to some other folks) it took my system approximately an hour to get to the 'found your server) stage. Of course after that it gave me 'An error occurred'. More info:

When you are doing the restore, press the reset button in the back and hold it in while you turn it on. Continue to hold it until you see the network light. This can take up to 5 minutes on some.
Is this how you did it?
