Fix for PVConnect / Twonky not recognizing PS3 correctly For those of you pulling your hair out after updating your PS3

I have noticed that this topic has come up a lot lately. My PS3 shows most movies as "unsupported data" or doesn't show movies at all.
The reason for this is that Sony has changed the Upnp handshake string that it sends out to identify itself to media streamers. Below are the steps to follow for getting PVConnect / Twonky to recognize your PS3 correctly again:
1) Open a remote desktop connection to your home server.
2) From windows explorer go to the following path: C:\TwonkyMedia\resources
3) Open the file clients.db (use notepad don't worry its just a text file)
4) You will find an entry marked ID:060 It will look like this
ID:060
NA:PS3
HH:PLAYSTATION3
DB:FIX
XM:DLNA10
XM:DATETIME
DL:MP4DLNA
HP:chunked
MT:mpeg,mpeg2,vdr,spts,tp,ts video/mpeg
MT:m4a audio/mp4
MT:avi,divx video/avi
AV:no-m3u
5) You need to put a space between PLAYSTATION and 3 so it should look like this: PLAYSTATION 3
6) Exit notepad saving your changes.
7) From the windows home server console select PVConnect
8) Select the Media Receivers Tab
9) Click on reset list
10) From the PS3 scan for media center under any of the Photo / Music / Video search for media centers or whatever it is
After that PVConnect (aka Twonky) will recognize the PS3 as a PS3 and your video problem will be solved

This worked for me though it took a couple of goes before it recognised it properly in the client list. I can now recognises the majority of my video files. It still a bit hit and miss what plays.
Plays OK
VOB files
DivX (encoded for Archos 500)
Partial
MCEBuddy PS3 preset AVC (stutters)
Iphone AVC sound only
HD MPEG (low frame rate)
doesn't play
mov files from a camera
MCEBuddy wmv recodes of dvrms (original resolution)
vc1 encoded files
I am going to experiment a little more with different formats played directly as I have wifi connection for the PS3 and bandwidth could be the issue as it isn't 802.11n.

I did as the instructions stated and PVConnect still would not reconize the IP/Address for the PS3. I rebooted the server and it worked.

Hi
I've got a brand new HP MediaSmart Server (EX470) which I'm struggling to see from my PS3. I've got PVConnect installed as an add-on, and I've fully updated the PS3 software, but the server just isn't visible. Perhaps the solution described here can fix the problem, except for the fact that I can't navigate to C:\TwonkyMedia or find a clients.db file. Perhaps it's the nature of the Windows Home Server Console, and the way it handles the administration of the box. Does anyone know how to approach this?
Many thanks for any help you can give...
Ben

Is it possible to play divx files from my WHS without twonky?
I have my Windows Library Sharing enabled.

One quick update here. I finally got Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) working with the EX470. Although you cannot browse to the unit, if you just type the name of the server, that’s enough to connect. Once you’ve connected you can edit that clients.db file on the box, change the workgroup, etc. Not that this has got the PS3 to successfully connect to the EX470 though – still no progress on that front. :-/

It looks like the lastest update to the PS3, FW 2.5, broke PVConnect again. Anyone have any thoughts on a fix for this?
Edit: I was able to get this working again by using the fix mentioned in the first post.
